My Story

We believe in the sacredness of childbirth as an easy, natural process that can be enhanced by a journey within, a deep trust of birth itself, and the inner knowledge that you already know how to give birth, you always have.

My Birth Story

When people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up I always said "a mom!" That's all I ever wanted to be, I didn't want to work or have a "normal" job, I just wanted to raise babies. The problem I had with this was that I didn't want to go through "labor" in order to have my babies. I told my mom that I would just adopt so I wouldn't have to go through all that pain. Well, I grew up, got married and two years later got pregnant. I was so excited! Then I started thinking about how this would all play out...what was bound to happen in just 9 months! Exactly what I have been dreading since I was a little girl. I started looking into what my options were. As I was researching I came across the Hypnobabies website and thought "hmmm, those women all had beautiful births...without medication! I want to do that!" So I registered for a class in my area. I absolutely loved the course! I learned so much and immediately felt peaceful and calm about giving birth. I no longer had all that fear and anxiety that I had felt for so long. Even when I had Doctors tell me that I would have to have a cesarean because I'm too small, I didn't let that affect me and my decision to have a normal, peaceful, non-medicated birth. And I did! I had such a beautiful birth experience!

The day began with a visit to my midwife. On my way home from my visit I started feeling like something was different. When I got home I sat in the tub to see if that would help, it did but it didn't slow anything down. I was in and out of the tub for a couple of hours when I decided to just sit on couch and relax. The whole time I was listening to my Hypnobabies CD's on my ipod! I felt very calm and relaxed. I had called my mom earlier that day and told her what was going on, she decided to stop by to check on me before she went home. When she got to my house and saw me sitting on the couch listening to my CD's, she noticed how I was breathing and asked me why I wasn't at the birth center yet, I told her I didn't know and she says "littia, you're having a baby, lets go!" (very calmly of course) When we got to the birth center my midwife checked me and said I was already dilated 9cm! I had no idea that I was that far along when I was at home sitting on my couch! I hadn't had any of the signs of labor except pressure waves (contractions), but they weren't bad at all, my water didn't break or anything. So I got in the tub, had a few pushing sensations, my husband and everyone could see our daughters head right there ready to be born when my midwife says to me "if you push, she'll come out!" So I did and there she was! Our little Ellie Marie was born, in the tub and still in the bag of waters until her shoulders came out! We were only at the birth center an hour before she graced us with her presence! She was completely alert, looking around at everyone, not even crying! She was completely happy and peaceful! After my husband cut the cord and I delivered the placenta (which was heart shaped! so cute!) I was immediately able to stand up and shower, put my makeup back on and enjoy my brand new baby girl with my family and friends. Start to finish was about 5 hours! AMAZING!

Thanks to the Hypnobabies program, I had the confidence and support that I needed to have the beautiful, easy birth I've always wanted! I have since had my second Hypnobabies birth which was just as amazing. I was able to have my little Cody Weston in just 5 hours and pushed for literally ten minutes. He was born in a portable birthing tub in the comfort of our own home. It was such a peaceful, calm environment and an absolutely perfect experience. I love Hypnobabies and feel blessed to have this knowledge and training in my life and get to share it with others looking for that same sense of peace about birth.
